More on Protecting Kandahar City More
Remember my worries about Canada’s new approach in protecting bigger population centers?
Some members of Canada’s Provincial Reconstruction Team in Kandahar have written a bit about Canada’s “Key Village” approach which ISAF’s Head Boss in AFG seems to like:
“The village, located in Dand District, south of Kandahar City, is the first village to benefit from Canada’s initiative to secure and enable villages in southern Afghanistan. This is achieved by securing the village and subsequently providing aid in the form of reconstruction projects in order to allow the village to flourish on its own.”
The Canadian writers are a tad more specific in their pieces.
“Dand District is one of the areas where my unit, the Kandahar Provincial Reconstruction Team (KPRT), is introducing the “Key Village Approach” to counter-insurgency operations. The idea is to secure and stabilize the villages near Kandahar City to make them better places to live, and much less accessible to the insurgents who use them as staging areas for operations in Kandahar City.“
“In Kandahar Province, stabilization teams, or “stab teams”, are deployed into the villages along the key routes into Kandahar City to secure and stabilize them. The result will be to deny the insurgents the use of their traditional staging, resting and transiting areas, thus ensuring a more secure environment in Kandahar City.“

I wonder if the Taliban is spinning this approach with messaging to the rural areas something like, “you get to fight and die to keep the big cities safe” yet?
And you think Toronto-haters are bad…
