TALIBAN PROPAGANDA WATCH: Taliban Seeking U.N.’s Help?
This tidbit, part of a Taliban statement (PDF of English & Arabic version at non-terrorist site here) denouncing NATO bombing fuel trucks that had been captured by the Taliban in Kunduz Province:
…. We urge the human rights watch and human rights advocacy institutes, the United Nations and all independent entities and governments to strongly condemn this event and fulfill their humane and moral duty to prevent such events from being repeated in future ….
Interesting – do the Taliban think they can pull the wool over the UN’s or human rights groups’ eyes? While some groups see the Taliban’s actions with reasonably open eyes, not all groups do.
We know it’s a high-profile incident when the Boss of ISAF drops by to take a look, and issues a statement to Afghan people on the radio.
If the Taliban is OK with international authorities looking into NATO incidents, perhaps they’ll be just as amenable to having them look into Taliban incidents, no?
It’ll be interesting to see what happens next.
