  • Wanted:  some non-Canadian dirt for testing mine detectors  “Defence Research and Development Canada (DRDC) – Suffield, Medicine Hat, Alberta has a requirement for a type of soil which has a highly frequency dependent magnetic susceptibility for testing metal detectors which may be used by the Canadian Forces. Since this kind of soil is not typically found in Canada, a Contractor is needed to help locate appropriate soil, and arrange for import to Canada by providing a report outlining the work required and expected costs to acquire and ship the soil ….”from the Statement of Work“DRDC Suffield is responsible for testing metal detectors which may be used by the Canadian Forces, as well as other governments and Non-Government Organizations (NGOs) worldwide, for detection of landmines and improvised explosive devices (IEDs). In order to carry out a thorough evaluation of a detector, a variety of soils is required. Currently, DRDC Suffield is lacking a type of soil needed to carry out a thorough evaluation of a detector ….”.
