- F-35 Tug o’ War Buried in this “how many birds hit F-18′s?” story (since Postmedia News isn’t sharing the “government records” in question, you can click here to see them – shared for research purposes or personal use only – or you can order your own copy by e-mailing info@parl.gc.ca and asking for Sessional Report #8555-411-661) “…. Conservative efforts to shut down parliamentary hearings into the auditor general’s scathing report on the $25-billion F-35 stealth fighter project appear all but assured to succeed in the next week or so. Opposition members of the public accounts committee had been conducting a filibustre behind closed doors before Parliament rose for the summer to stop Conservative members from moving to the report writing stage, which would effectively end hearings. They had been demanding appearances by ministers and other experts. But NDP member Malcolm Allen indicated Thursday the committee is preparing to move onto other business after his party held an informal hearing with several experts on Parliament Hill in August. He said there are still many questions about the F-35, but they will be tackled in other fora. “The F-35 is not a file that has gone dormant or will go dormant,” he said. “But there will have to be other avenues to get that out into the public and shine that big spotlight in the dark corner.” “
