Thanks for Supporting Thunder Bay’s Hometown Troops

DISCLAIMER:  I’m sharing this because I, too, am an alumnus of the Lake Superior Scottish Regiment, and a member of Friends of the Regiment.  Every member of our group is a volunteer, a former member of the Regiment, and someone who wants to say “thanks” by giving a little bit back.  The volunteers don’t keep one penny from the money collected through fundraising.

Only just getting a chance to share some photos from Friday’s Support Our Troops fundraiser:

A quick thanks to everyone who helped out, and everyone who showed up to show their support for Thunder Bay’s hometown troops!

“Friends of the Regiment” (FOTR), a group of former members of the Lake Superior Scottish Regiment (LSSR), wants to help you say “thank you” to local citizen soldiers for their service to the community and to Canada.

FOTR is raising money to help improve the quality of life and morale of the men and women of the Regiment, both those serving overseas as well as those supporting their community here in Thunder Bay.  What does that mean?  It could mean anything from something to make life less miserable while in Afghanistan all the way up to a barbeque for troops returning dirty and sleep deprived from a training exercise – whatever it takes to make life better for the troops, FOTR can make it happen.

“Reservists serve in a very special way,” says FOTR spokesperson Jed Ziegler.  “Not only do they go to school, or hold regular jobs and family commitments.  Over and above that, they choose to serve in their spare time in case they’re needed.  The least we can do to say thanks in any way we can.”

A fundraising bash is scheduled on February 19, 2010 at the C.L.E. Coliseum from 8pm until 2am, with music by Steve Clark and the Hoolies, and a performance by the MacGillivray Pipe Band of Thunder Bay.   Admission is $5 in advance or $10 at the door.  Tickets are available from any FOTR member, as well as at The Armoury, 317 Park Avenue, Shooters Tavern, 377 Memorial Avenue, Fabutan, 588 West Arthur Street, Maltese Grocery, 301 Pearl Street and George’s Market, 14 Balsam Street.  Donations for raffle prizes are also welcome!
