TALIBAN PROPAGANDA WATCH: Happy to see you die, too, buddy!
This, according to the Canadian Press’s Colin Perkel, from a Taliban spokesperson responding to the latest death of a Canadian soldier (.pdf of article here if link doesn’t work):
“Qari Yousaf Ahmadi, a spokesman for the Taliban in southern Afghanistan, said by telephone: “We are very happy, because in this way Canadians can feel the pain, and they will understand that we feel the same pain when an innocent Afghan gets killed somewhere.
“Canadians came to our country for the war; we didn’t go there. When we kill them, it gives us much happiness.
“Canadians don’t have to work under the command of Americans,” Ahmadi said. “They don’t have to see their innocent soldiers killed.” “
Interesting message cocktail there: “now you feel our pain” mixed in with the “we still have civvies being killed” and a soupcon of anti-American “you don’t HAVE to be the lackeys of the Yanks, you know” mixed in for good measure. Certainly touches on a lot of themes.
