UKR Pres Drops By Donetsk, Announces a New (military) Face in Charge

  • “President inspected fortifications near Donetsk — President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko arrived to Donetsk region on a working visit. He inspected fortifications in Kurakhove which is 32 km from Donetsk. Kurakhove became the first place of the President’s working visit to Donetsk and Luhansk regions. The Head of State examined supporting patrol base of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. It is a new operational tactical type of military fortification that allows controlling significant part of the territory and ensuring reliable and secured deployment of servicemen.   • “President Petro Poroshenko has dismissed the pro-Kiev governor of the eastern Donetsk region, Serhiy Taruta, the presidential administration tweeted on Friday. Taruta, one of the country’s leading business tycoons, has been replaced by General Oleksandr Kikhtenko. As he commented on his resignation earlier, Taruta said the move had been coordinated with him. “I must take care of election campaign right now,” he said. September 29, he was registered by the country’s Central Election Commission as a self-nominated candidate in precinct No. 58 in the Donetsk region as a candidate for Verkhovna Rada, the national parliament. Earlier reports indicated that Taruta made a strongly worded statement on September 16 against President Poroshenko’s decision to give a special status to a number of districts in the Donetsk region, which has been swept by struggle with government force involved in the punitive ‘antiterrorist’ operation since mid-April ….” (ITAR-TASS)

  • “Ihor Smeshko: Intelligence Committee under the President of Ukraine will coordinate intelligence activities — “The President set a task to return professionalism to the work of special forces of the country,” newly appointed Advisor to the President of Ukraine – Head of the Intelligence Committee under the President of Ukraine Ihor Smeshko noted. In the course of his briefing, Ihor Smeshko noted that current level of intelligence provision didn’t meet the needs of state protection. “We do not have any coordination between information analysis units of security structures of the country. Information analysis provision doesn’t meet the required level in wartime. That’s why the President made a decision to restore the functioning of the Intelligence Committee,” Ihor Smeshko said ….” (Press office of President)

UKR PM On Cleaning Up Government

  • “Arseniy Yatsenyuk: The Government embarks on execution of law on purification of authorities — Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk has commissioned the Ministry of Justice to establish a Department on implementation of the law On the Purging of the Government, while the head of the State Fiscal Service is to set up a separate Department of monitoring and verification of the declarations of high-ranking officials.   • “Since the moment of coming into force of the law of Ukraine “On Lustration” the government will immediately take personnel decisions. Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk said this at the Cabinet’s meeting Friday, a Ukrinform correspondent reports. “The government starts fulfillment of the law of Ukraine “On Lustration”… After the law comes into force, the government will immediately take personnel decisions,” he said.
