  • Donetsk Oblast, Slavyansk: Combat group of terrorists uses heavy armament against Ukrainian military — Today, the illegal actions of armed terrorists at block posts of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and other Ukrainian military involved in the anti-terror operation, near Slavyansk, have been activated.   • Ukrainian troops try to prevent civilian casualties eastern Ukraine – Avakov — The forces used in the military operation in eastern Ukraine are not storming residential quarters and are trying to prevent civilian casualties, Ukrainian Interior Minister Arsen Avakov said. “We are not using anti-terrorist operation forces to storm residential quarters and they have the restriction on attacking places where civilian populations are located,” Avakov told reporters at a checkpoint at the entrance to Sloviansk on Monday. Avakov reiterated that this approach slows down the anti-terrorist operation. “We are tied down by the civilian population. Some people support us and some do not. It doesn’t matter.   • Donetsk Oblast: Militants shot down Mi-24 helicopter: no victims — About 2.30 p.m. the Ukrainian Mi-24 helicopter was shot down while targeting and accomplishing task. The helicopter fell into the river. The pilots are undamaged. The operation team of the Anti-Terror Center evacuated them to the camp.   • PM to allocate financial assistance to families of killed peaceful protesters in Odessa — The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine is to allocate financial assistance to the families of those killed peaceful protesters in Odessa, Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk said to journalists in Odessa on Sunday, May 4.   • There has been approved a decision on temporary closure of certain checkpoints at the state border on the territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea. The Government endorsed a respective order on April 30, 2014 “On the temporary closure of border checkpoints and control points”. In connection to the aggravation of the situation in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and invasion of the armed groups, extremist-minded persons and military aggression on the part of the Russian Federation, blocking of functioning of the state border checkpoints and control points located at the Crimean Autonomous Republic, that cause impossibility to perform duties in them and hampers carrying out envisaged by Ukraine’s legislation kinds of state control in the process of crossing the state border, pursuant to the Law of Ukraine “On ensuring rights and freedoms of citizens and legal regime on the temporary occupied territory of Ukraine”, the Government had endorsed a decision to temporary close the state border checkpoints and control points.
