TALIBAN PROPAGANDA WATCH: Year in Review Statement

CORRECTION:  I misread the icasualties.org stats on ISAF deaths for 2009, so I’ve corrected the figure below.

Just spotted the Taliban’s “Year in Review” for 2009 statement on the Arabic web site (Google English translation here, PDF of Arabic and Google English at non-terrorist site here).

Awaiting the official English version, but so far, this much jumps out at me.

1)  The Taliban claim to have killed 5,587 foreign troops in Afghanistan during 2009.  Meanwhile, icasualties.org has collected reports of 521 ISAF casualties in 2009. This gives us a Taliban:our side cas claims ratio of 10.7:1 – not quite as exaggerated as the 14:1 ratio we see in reports of Canadian casualties, but still something worth remembering when considering the credibility of such statements.

2)  Hints of a major re-org in early 2009? (Google English translation)

Before last spring has been large changes in formation, the mujahideen all over Afghanistan in accordance with the designs of the Shura Council of the Islamic Emirate’s leadership, was a new Appointments, and received military formations and civilian in an innovative way In all the States in order to have greater impact on the fighting fronts, and thankfully have had a major role in the jihad and military victories.

3)  “We’re going to kick America’s and NATO’s asses in 2010”

The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan upholding of God Almighty, and to take advantage of all the types of skills and methods of warfare and tactics developed against the occupation forces of international referees will force the White House and Brussels, self-centered and lovers of war to flee their beloved in Afghanistan (2010), God willing.

More when I see the official English version.
